When Going International Works

Hey guys! It's been a while! first year of uni is finally done so I'm back on the writing game (lol) So if you ain't heard both Ace Hood and Meek Mill have collaborated with African artists to create  some quite interesting tunes.

Meek teamed with Davido to create Fans Mi and to be fair it's definitely a club song if that's what they were after. I think it was the video that threw me off the song a little....

I can't lie when I heard the snippet and a preview of the video I was excited, but the video for me was a little too much. The song itself was fine, but Davido seemed a bit too excited to me and I found myself going bro calm all the way down, but given that he's standing next to meek I guess I can allow him to have it. The pounded yam at the end was class, but the guns was a little unnecessary. I get that you want to be hype, but at the same time you went to e ma dami duro to pointing guns? Really? Each to their own I guess.... 

As for Ace Hood teaming up with Sarkodie for New Guy this has to be my favourite of the two. This is possibly because I'm more into rap so I really liked the rawness of it. As for the video, the simplicity of it was definitively a plus for me, but I guess it's important to note that both songs are discussing different things and both Sarkodie and Davdio are not of the same genre of music so I can't judge them without being biased. 

                                      

Props to both men for their international collaborations. One thing I have to applaud them both on is that both international artists seemed to have some idea of what the song was about so could do their verses to suit the track correctly.

Koker - Do Something

Morning Guys, basically I heard Koker's Do something on instagram the other day and I didn't really get the fuss about it. It sounded decent enough so went on Youtube to hear it and it might of been because I was in the library revising that I still understand what was good about it, but listening to it now (as in right now) I can finally get what's so good about it! It's one of those songs that will fit into an African party perfectly ( I'm talking the proper fuji type parties). I think it's where he goes, Daddy, daddy, ki le she fu 'n mummy daddy it sounds like the bit where they would go oya beremole! 

But yeah definitely play this for mummy and daddy I definitely am! 

Ello Bae Video

Falz has finally released the video for Ello Bae (after having me search on Youtube constantly since he released the teaser). On the whole very happy with the video definitely lived up to expectation with the comedy. The beginning had me laughing so hard for a solid 5mins. It's the kizzesss and plix! I can't deal with Falz anymore! On another note I don't think he's a had a poor video since working with MEX from Toyin Tomato to the very funny Marry Me , they definitely have a good relationship and great understanding of how each other work.

Also has a cheeky ending lol

Reminisce - Skilashii

Skilashii....skilala! Don't you just hate it when you're the last to find things out? So basically I knew Reminisce's album Baba Hafusa was coming out tomorrow and decided to do some research into what to expect or find a tracklist. Instead I found Skilashii and now I'm upset. I absolutely love this song and wish I found it earlier!

So for now I leave with Skilashii and we look forward to tomorrow for the release of #BABAHAFUSA

Baby Jollof Video!

Hi guys! So I'm currently in the library revising (well I'm suppose too), and I got bored so decided to do a bit of snooping around and I came across the visuals For Solidstar's Baby Jollof featuring Tiwa Savage. This was definitely much freshers week song, I may have played it a bit too loud at times, but oh wells...moving on swiftly...

 Solidstar is definitely no Flavour, but I thoroughly enjoyed seeing him topless (lol!). The video itself is very sweet and has a strong love storyline (not that I was paying much attention to anything besides Solidstar being shirtless). Tiwa Savage looks beautiful as always and the summer time feel of the song most definitely means it will be creeping up my playlist again soon! 

I unfortunately must get back to revising soooo....

Oya Feel it Eh......

This by far has to be the funniest video I have seen in a while! I'm talking about Feel It by Kcee, Harrysong & Iyanya or as I like to call them, The Waist Kings (after Flavour obviously). I watched the video for the first time yesterday and I have probably watched it ten times since then! Besides the fact that the song is catchy, I have replayed this video solely to watch the stairs scene over and over again! There's just something about how they dance on the stairs that has my in hysterics! That and Kcee's 'I;ll be back in a jiffy' comment. Not too crazy for the song but the video definitely won me over on comedy

Girls in Badagry!

So the sun is shining and I felt the need to share my latest afrobeats tune of the moment. So if you didn't know, I'm a big Studio Magic fan (you know the guys that are like I need that magic...) so when I saw Hafeez post the promo on Instagram I was more than excited, plus the beat sounded maadd! Man Like Skalesss!

I say this quite often to myself, but in my opinion Skales is one of the most successful artists since leaving his original label E.M.E. He's kept humble and managed his success really well. Now why am I saying this? Well I'm referring to Je Kan Mo obviously! Now to let me clear I'm referring to Je Kan Mo by TR ft Skales (I weirdly got confused), but the one with Skales solely is good also.

However the flow on this song is just too much. Like to be honest, I didn't really realise how big of a fan I was of Skales till I went through my phone, but that's beside the point! Skales is just a beast! Props to DreyBeatz too! 

It's only a matter of time before he starts collecting all those awards don't you think?

My Tune of The Moment!

Omgg so sorry one more song! So since I found Instagram  (I was against it for the longest time) I decided to follow one of the coolest producers, Chopstix. From the moment he first dropped the artwork for this song I was excited. I'm always tentative about features of more than two people, sometimes it doesn't blend well and it becomes too much. However this worked and taking the dancehall theme each person's verse blends well (I think I'm back on the Cynthia Morgan train), but yeah I'm definitely having this on repeat while walking in the cold so I can at least feel like I'm on the beach

P2J Killed it!

Happy New Year guys! coming mad late I know, but oh well! Sooooo basically yesterday I heard Lola Rae's new track You Know What My Name Is

It has to be said, P2J actually destroyed this track! Like madting!!! (lol) The beat actually gets me mad excited like you can't help, but start dancing and dare I say get a bit ratchet? But that's just me personally.As for Lola Rae she did her thing, but all my praise (or most of it) is going to the producer on this one.I guess what I particularly like is that the two have formed such a strong bond given that he has produced all her songs. They therefore have a clear understanding of how each person works and bounce off each other easily creating a banger like this. 

#StarboyMondays Won't Work

The other day, Wizkid released his new tune Sound It as part of #StarboyMondays and as the title suggests I don't feel this move will prove effective and I'm here to discuss why.

To begin with why not take a listen to this new track ay?

Me personally, I'm not feeling it. It lacks substance. No doubt Sarz done well beat wise and to be fair if the song blows it's for that sole reason. However as for Wiz himself, for me there's a lack of lyrics and I just don't see the point in it. For me it's a song I would play in my car (when I own one) rather than something that I would get excited about when played in the club. Then again given the atmosphere and loud speakers I may be persuaded. 

The song is not my real issue to be fair. My real issue lies with this whole #StarboyMondays thing. Basically Wizkid is saying that every Monday he'll release a new track. The point of this? I'm really not sure. 

My first question is, how practical is this? Okay, so in a literal sense it's pretty easy. The tracks would be prerecorded so he literally just has to drop them for the fans. BUT (and this is a big but) do you really need to release a track every week in order to stay relevant? Lezzbehonest  Wizkid already has the recognition so he doesn't need to build on that. He has enough fans so any more is a bonus and he's known internationally so again I ask WHAT IS THE POINT? 

One thing we could point to is the whole WizkidVsDavido rivalry. Here's my stance on the whole thing. In terms of personal beef and firing shoots at one another, they should both grow up and either be friends or just go about your business no need to address it in interviews no more. Musically, I have to say at the start of the year, Wizkid had it, with songs like Ginger and On Top Your Matter I was like Yeahhh man likeee, but then Aye came around and I was like so Davido is back!! By this point I was still #TeamWizzy, but when the album dropped I have to say I was deeply disappointed. but like I said in my review , timing could have been a factor and for me  he hasn't found his form since. 

Davido on the other hand is doing great in my eyes. Having recently released the video for Owo Ni Koko, which by the way is an absolute bangerrrrr! Not saying he doesn't have his fault because if I'm complaining Wizkid lacks lyrics Davdio ain't that much better, but what he does seems to have that extra umph that Wizkid seems to be lacking. Another thing that Davido ain't doing is deciding to release new tracks every week! What does he do? Jump on features. This doesn't always work agreed, but in the case of Naughty and Taka Rawa, it definitely has. (In my eyes anyway). Funny how Starboy Mondays comes a few days after Owo Ni Koko video drops

Right, before deciding to do this I feel Wizkid forgot to do something called SMART objectives. Specific. Measurable. Achievable. Realistic and Time Related. God bless my Business degree, but as annoying as it is that lecturers constantly talk about this, it is a key way to look at things. Now there is a possibility I could be wrong and he has done this and has everything mapped out, but it sure as hell doesn't feel like. There's nothing specific about it besides tracks coming out every week) The why is missing; I wouldn't have the slightest clue what he's has to measure unless it's the money in his pocket; achievable depends what he is trying to achieve  realistic? Read above plus the fact that not every song will not of the same caliber so I'd be wary here; and time related boyyy I dunno for that one. 

All in all I would have preferred if he decided to release one song (or something!) and a fact  about it is given to us  every week to give us a clue and build anticipation that way and keep his name in our mouths that way. Think he might need to rethink this one!

But hey. it's only the first week let's see how it goes. I hope he proves me wrong! 

Can I just say.....Does Beyonce or Jay Z release tracks every week? Like come on!

So I've been trying to do my work, but as soon as this song came on it was a wrap! I'm even struggling to type this because I keep stopping to dance on my bed!

Hafeez dropped Taka Rawa a few weeks ago and I've been buzzing ever since!  Taka Rawa is Hausa for Dance Step and I may not understand a word of Hausa, but I know my ears are feeling this tune and you'd be insane not to get up and start dancing as soon as the beat drop!

Rightttt, It's been a minute since I wrote a poem so decided to drop one today. I decided to write this because I'm writing a book called Journey To Self Acceptance and thought it would be cool to start the book with something I enjoy...a poem!

Countdown to Street OT!

Yooooooooooooooo! So in a couple hours Olamide's latest album Street OT will be dropping and to get me hyped up I've been listening to all things Olamide today! I've heard bits and pieces of the album and I'm gassed!!!! 

At first I was skeptical because the guy is just releasing albums like water what it's like four albums in three years?? Beastly! However from what I've heard you guys won't be disappointed in the slightest!

We Need Phenom Back!

Finally started uni! After multiple trips back and forth, hours of course work, painless exams and no sleep I made it! 

Anyways I have been sitting on this issue for a while and thought I could let it slide, but yesterday was the last straw, it's time to speak up.

So a couple weeks ago Phenom released the video for Amen take a look..

I personally hate the video. Okay hate is a strong word I strongly dislike this video. Aside from the average video (Clarence Peters has shot better), Phenom himself is starting to anger my soul. It's almost like he's transformed into this deadbeat artist. Before the video even dropped, from the time when the audio was release I was like "what the hell is this?" I got a few minutes in and had to turn it off. It was like he didn't put any effort into it and it was just a bunch of line strung together to make a freestyle.

Compare and contrast the two and I'm sure you'll agree with me that the original is better. My issue with Phenom is I have so much love for him and absolutely love what he does so to go from creating such a sick EP to this, it's frustrating. Phenom is a brilliant rapper and has bundles of potential, but I do understand that it takes time to perfect ones craft..I just hope he sticks to what he does best because he has touched many hearts and inspired so many people that this definitely needs to stop and he needs to go back, regroup and come back with those sick flows we know and love him for. 

If this was an experiment to see what you're good at or to try something different, ogbeni consider the experiment done. It hasn't worked so please, please, please go back to normal.

Album Review: WIzkid - Ayo (Joy)

Hey, so it's a new month which means another album review and today I decided I would review WIzkid's much awaited sophomore album Ayo (Joy).

Before I begin the review I need to get a few things off my chest...

I can't help, but feel the timing of the release of this album was a bit unfortunate. When I first heard that the album was going to be released I was like finally, but not the excited sort of finally more like " it's about time" type of finally. To be fair we have been waiting for the album for a while so I'm sure Wizzy is just as relieved that it's finally out. Another thing, for me I wish he could have done more to get us a bit excited for this, just releasing the album tracklist and the usual stuff wasn't enough for me. We have been waiting a year for this fans begging and pleading for this, I kind of wish he did a Beyoncé and kept the album quiet then at lunchtime or something just dropped it just like that! We wouldn't have expected it and people would have gone insane over social networks about it let alone blogs fighting to get their hands on the press release before anyone else. 

Anyway enough of the ranting...

With the top 10 hottest artists list being released and Davidio sat pretty at the top while Wizzy sat at a not so pretty #5, he needed to pull something out of the bag in order to climb back and claim back his crown. 

I have to say Wizzy has definitely taken on a different sort of sound on this album, but it's not the drastic sort of change where you'll be like WTF, but more...the only way I can describe it is that given that this is the last album to album he’ll be release under EME it will be interesting to see if this is the sort of music he continues with in the future. The album still has hits like Jaiye Jaiye and On Top Your Matter, but it's the new stuff that really get to me. 

I remember looking at the tracklist when it first came out, and   the first and probably the only track that caught my eye was In Love ft Seyi Shay. This track is one of my favourites. It's up tempo and old school swing vibe is definitely up my street. In terms of floor fillers Dutty Whyne ft Banky W is the one. Guys grab a girl with a decent sized nyash and get her to whine with you to this track trust me you'll be thanking me by the end (unless her whining game is poor to which, I'm not involved). 

As afrobeats continues to grow we continue to attract the attention of international artist. Show Me The Money Remix  features Tyga. His verse was a bit useless and unnecessary in my eyes and the original is better, but on a more positive note Murder ft Wale is due massive airplay and should be hitting the clubs soon! Should definitely be played in your car on max! 

The album closes with the massive hit Caro ft LAX. Overall a good album and should receive a positive response from fans. Steady process, but definitely looking forward to watching Wizzy on this new journey of self-discovery

Album Review| Dammy Krane - The Enterkraner

So today my boo of life, Dammy Krane finally released his debut album The Enterkraner! For a first album I have to say it's a decent effort! The album has a bit of everything from Ligali which  basically blew him onto the scene then there's Love Na Die ft Olamide which is easily the best song on the album (after Amin). I have to say when I saw the track list I was disappointed not to see Wifey (ft Boj) on there, but after hearing Faleela it was understandable. It's kinda the wedding track of the album and I love the Fuji feel it has that defines the Enterkraner himself. Other songs I you should check out are Asiwaju and Jolly Good Fellow (ft 2face & Rocksteady).

Over all I love the album but he definitely has room to grow, but all will happen in due time. As my friend said we have to embrace him first. This is one of them albums that you play in your car on the long evening drives with the roof open and wind blowing in your hair and your just cruising.  It's not exactly heavy base that makes you get up and dance (with a few exceptions) nor is it slow jam material. It has the right balance throughout.

As a suggestion maybe have Burna Boy on the Asiwaju remix and fiddle with the beat a little or on Oluwakemi? Also Reekardo Banks or Korede Bello on Tomorrow No Day? Just a suggestion!

So just when I couldn't get enough of Reekardo Banks latest song Chop Am (I'm pro Mavins by the way) he hits back featuring on a track with a few friends! By friends I mean DJ Jimmy Jatt, fellow Mavin D'Prince and the YBNL beast himself Olamide, Baddo! Produced by Don Jazzy!

Considering DJ Jimmy Jatt just launched his sophomore album The Industry yesterday this song has most definitely pushed me to take a listen to the album!

Poetry Freestyle

This is a bit of poetry freestyle. By this what I mean is that I take a random song, listen to it and while I listen I just spill on the page. The song picked today is Pump it by Black Eyed Peas. I gave my Spotify playlist a bit of shuffle and this came up so..Yeah Let's go! 

let's be honest here, I'm nervous 

not exactly free 

in a matter of days all is me 

I dunno what to make of it 

just a bunch of letters 

Yet they ave that much power 

your heart races 

just because of a white sheet 

people either screaming 

others hiding 

food doesn't seem that important 

everything is constricted 

the walls are closing 

you open the brown envelope 

everything builds up 

you draw the sheet... 

Your mind is frazzled nothing really makes sense 

mostly because you haven't really given much time to think 

That's results day for ya!

Okay that was an experience! Much harder than I imagined it to be probably because I tried to not stop typing and mostly feel not think!
