My 277

In film and TV I'm this inspiration
Environmentally I'm a waste of space
Medically I cost a bit too much
And education? She brings more money so why not accept her

My 277

I remember that day distinctly
Torrential rain
Whirling winds
Umbrella turned inside out
10,15 minute journey turns into 20, 30 minutes of mixed emotions

Frustration, tiredness, hunger
I'm young
That doesn't mean you'll take the piss

My 277

I didn't ask to be like this
I do ask that you my life easier though
This isn't the first, second or third time
Each going past with a mere
"Sorry love next comes in 3 minutes"
Three minutes go by

My 277

Funny thing is
Every four years it's vote me and not him
I can change this and that
Yet the problem still stands

Don't tell me to complain
Been there. Done that
Wrote letters
My voice still ain't heard

277

All inclusive
Yet I still feel like some sorta outcast
When is it gonna be that time
The time where I can just get around
With no questions
Stares
Or irrelevant comments

 Blondie wants to be MP
Can't really be a Mayor yet you want jump to something else
Steady steps there mate
Complete one job before another

My 277

Nobody's perfect
Agreed
But stop tryna fool me sayin
The government are trying
When they can keep up with technology
But simple keeping ramps down and getting off the bus
Is still a problem

My 277

To some I might be complaisant
Don't blame you
You don't live with this day in day out
But to others this is for you

Open your eyes
Don't stare
Shut your mouth
Don't whisper
Learn to look around you
This is my 277

Hopefully you'll listen

Dj Jimmy Jatt ft Olamide, D' Prince & Reekardo Banks: Lori Standing

It's times like this that make being youthful and never being able to sleep the greatest part of life! So just when I couldn't get enough of Reekardo Banks latest song Chop Am (I'm pro Mavins by the way) he hits back featuring on a track with a few friends! By friends I mean DJ Jimmy Jatt, fellow Mavin D'Prince and the YBNL beast himself Olamide, Baddo! Produced by Don Jazzy!

Considering DJ Jimmy Jatt just launched his sophomore album The Industry yesterday this song has most definitely pushed me to take a listen to the album!

For now I leave you with DJ Jimmy Jatt ft D'Prince, Olamide and Reekardo Banks Lori Standing

Poetry Freestyle

This is a bit of poetry freestyle. By this what I mean is that I take a random song, listen to it and while I listen I just spill on the page. The song picked today is Pump it by Black Eyed Peas. I gave my Spotify playlist a bit of shuffle and this came up so..Yeah Let's go!

let's be honest here, I'm nervous
not exactly free
in a matter of days all is me
I dunno what to make of it
just a bunch of letters
Yet they ave that much power
your heart races
just because of a white sheet
people either screaming
others hiding
food doesn't seem that important
everything is constricted
the walls are closing
you open the brown envelope
everything builds up
you draw the sheet...

Your mind is frazzled nothing really makes sense
mostly because you haven't really given much time to think

That's results day for ya!

Okay that was an experience! Much harder than I imagined it to be probably because I tried to not stop typing and mostly feel not think!

Wanna give it a go?

Here's the rules:

  1. Pick a song at random
  2. State the song in the intro
  3. You can't pre-plan the poem! Has to be written in the moment!
  4. You have the same time to write the poem as the song lasts
  5. As soon as the song stops, you stop!
  6. Don't stop writing/Typing
  7. Have fun!
Email all poems to blessxo8@gmail.com
If you have links tweet me @blessing_xxx with #ATAPoetryFreestyle
Poems can be in the form of videos or any form you wish! Just stick to the rules

The best poems will be put up!

Peace and Love!

Throwback Thursday - DK

In the spirit of #ThrowbackThursday, I thought I would drop a throwback from my favourite artist, Dammy Krane titled Throwback (I used throwback a bit too much in that sentence...oh wells).

Truth be told, when I first heard this song I wasn't feeling it in the slightest. It wasn't till I watched Dammy Krane on The Juice that I actually understood the concept behind the song. Basically he incorporates old school songs into his lyrics and at the moment I can only pin point four songs he refers to. That's four songs that I can name the artist and the song title, the rest I know, but can't name.

See how many you can get!

On the subject of DK, check out his lastest tracks In Case of Incasity (feat Davido) and Amin

In Case of Incasity (ft Davido)

Amin (Prod. Spellz)

His debut album The Enterkraner should be dropping soon so expect a review by yours truly

Olawale Jupa + Follow My Lead

Okay, so the other day I heard the latest tracks released by Project Fame 6.0 winner Olawale. Having never heard of him before now, I was impressed and I have to say that the only way is up for this guy! For all of those who don't know what Project Fame is, it's like X Factor just the West African version.

Olawale is also working on his EP Almost Famous due to drop next month! When asked about his EP he said  "am in the studio, working to ensure that there is something for everyone in my EP; the typical club goer, Students, executives in the banks, Entrepreneurs, market women or artisans"

I expect big things to follow! For now I leave you with Follow My Lead feauturing YBNL's Lil Kesh (see he's making big moves already) and Jupa (Prod. Spellz)

#Beauty, Banged

So last Tuesday (22nd July) was one of the best days of my life! Why? Well, the year long preparation for WhatIsBeauty finally came to light and to say I was overwhelmed is an understatement! The event took place at Gillette Square with an array of activities taking place, including soft play for the young one, Dollis Dolls Nail bar, art therapy and a wonderful session by The School of Hip Hop teaching us how to write our own rap then proceeding to perform it. The talent was immense in that aspect I can't lie!

The whole point of the exhibition was to create awareness of mental health and how the government needs to do more to support people with mental health. In effort to show this we had a group of young creatives including myself express what beauty meant to them through some form of creative medium. Believe it or not, one of my poems, "I Hate Music" was chosen to be exhibited (now you understand why I was so excited!).

To begin with we weren't sure how to express the poem as we thought just having it on a piece of paper hung on a wall  wouldn't really express the true meaning and feeling behind the poem.

We decided on doing a video and well... See for yourself

Falz The BAHD Guy

So exams are done, school is over and I'm free! What better way to kick start my summer than to talk 'bout this guy!

I won't lie a friend told me about this guy a while ago and I didn't really take notice (how I wish I did) I was like who's this Falz guy then just let it go. Then last week I decided to download his debut album Wazzup Guy and let's just say I've been playing it non stop! No joke this guy is the business!

Let me start by saying this: we all have that one friend that likes to force African accents and it's a bit like why you forcing it man sometimes just keep quiet... Falz does this but for some reason it doesn't sound so forced, but it's not a natural African accent either it's just funny and when you hear it it's like Yeah, that's Falz on the beat. Individuality is hard to find in anything you do, but for me he has found the balance between rapping about the material things in life, success and just having a good time on the mic!

There are very few albums I feel I have a personal connection with. Confession, sometimes I like an album because I like the artist, but when it comes to sitting down and listening to their album I'll just be sitting there thinking the only reason I'm  still listening to this is because I like the artist, if I didn't like you I would have stopped listening time ago! Get what mean? With this album I didn't have this problem and this is probably because the intro was hilarious so I was sold from the beginning!

This album was both real with songs like How Far which discusses the fact that Nigeria is 53 and is "rich from oil" yet people are forced to turn to robbery to survive as well as the fact that there are not enough schools around. All in all I have to say the song really touched my heart and maybe Goodluck Johnathan should take a listen (not that he'll care). Then there's Marry Me which made me giggle but is another true reflection on our life.

To all my older single women, how many of you say my next boyfriend will be my husband? Then you'll meet someone and be dating for a while (a long while might I add)  and drop the but where is this going? Don't lie! You do it abi? Then you'll be on Instagram and see pictures from Bukky's wedding and be like Chai! Common Bukky got married and I'm still chilling here, waiting for someone to put ring on my finger. You girls really need to listen to Marry me, it might open your eyes a little.

Guys I pity you a little you know, but you guys too what's taking you so long? It's not like you just met her you've probably spoken about marriage with her so maybe put a ring on it instead of selling dreams? Mind you, that ring has to serious like no small small thing so if you gotta pause a little before you get down on one knee maybe that's the right thing to do! I don't know! Don't say I read this blog and came to the conclusion I had to pause before I propose because my ring ain't big enough! I'm not involved!

Anyway, props to Falz for this album! Tellin us Wazzup!
